Hello, I am Minon Fernando.
I was born and raised in Sri Lanka. I am a proud father of two and enjoy spending quality time with my family.
I love to document family portraiture as I feel that it captures the true essence of life. I bought my first DSLR camera (Canon EOS 450D second hand) in early 2010 to start capturing my children’s life.
I am self-taught and work full time for one of the world’s leading packaging companies as a pre-press/graphic artist which has greatly influenced my passion and drive for photography.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to live near the exquisite Auckland Botanical Gardens and Totara Park - I love immersing myself in the beauty of nature. I enjoy walking in the tranquil gardens with my kids, it helps me stay calm and relaxed. I love sitting in a quiet area reading a self-help book with soothing instrumental background music. If I am with somebody, I love delving into a conversation and digging deep into ideas.
I prefer shooting isolated subjects and working with a few people where I can stay focused. I love trees, twigs, leaves and flowers. I love different seasons and incorporating bokeh (blur). Most importantly I love the attention-to-detail shots.
Throughout my career, I have endured many struggles, pain and frustration to develop my knowledge & creativity in photography. This is a never-ending journey and I am excited to continue this adventure.

I began my professional career in 1998, working with world-leading FMCG global brands as a Pre-Press Artist (Graphics) & Retoucher. During this time, I have gained comprehensive knowledge and mastered industry-leading cutting-edge software which I continue to incorporate into daily practice.
